My Philosophy
I believe that a strong technical foundation is the cornerstone of
every genre of piano playing, even for the youngest beginners. In fact, the earliest stages of learning are often the most important in building the techniques that support advanced playing in the years ahead.
From the very beginning, my students learn that every finger movement, every detail of posture and every sound they produce has a musical purpose. Technique is never taught for its own sake- it exists to make playing effective, effortless and expressive.
This philosophy forms the foundation of my teaching: no struggling, no fighting the piano.
There should be little to no unnecessary tension while playing. A solid technical foundation is what gives students the freedom to express emotion, musicality and imagination with confidence.
When proper techniques are developed from the start, they become second nature as students progress through increasingly challenging repertoire.
For students who begin lessons with me after learning elsewhere, I carefully assess their existing technique and guide them in refining or correcting habits where necessary. Even students with a good foundation can benefit from thoughtful adjustments that make their playing more comfortable and efficient.
Developing healthy technique takes time. Years of ingrained habits cannot be changed overnight, and every student learns at a different pace.
That is why patience, understanding and consistent guidance are at the heart of my teaching. I believe every student deserves the time and encouragement to build lasting skills that will support a lifetime of enjoyable music-making.
